With the chaotic 2022 holiday travel season over and a new year to look forward to, many airlines in the U.S. and abroad are trying to capitalize on mid-winter demand for travel with their annual January flight deals. Looking to travel now that the holiday rush has subsided? Here are some of the best deals you can snag now. Be quick—all of these promotions are running for a limited time.
Air New Zealand
Air New Zealand’s New Year Sale includes round-trip flights from San Francisco to Auckland, New Zealand, for around $1,000. Economy flights between California and New Zealand typically average at around $1,500 round trip, so these deals, while still a bit pricey, offer a significant saving on this long-haul route. The sale is running until January 12.
U.K. flag carrier British Airways‘ January sale includes deals to roughly 100 destinations, including transatlantic routes. Return tickets from New York (JFK) to London Gatwick (LGW) start at just £342 ($405), while you can also get roundtrip fares between Los Angeles (LAX) or Chicago (ORD) to London Heathrow (LHR) for as low as £399 ($473).
From London, British Airways is offering sales on flights to many other connecting destinations, including Malta and Dubai, with sales valid until January 31.
Delta Air Lines / Air France
In response to rising competition from low-cost carrier French Bee Airlines, which offers direct flights from San Francisco to Papeete, in Tahiti, for $270 each way, SkyMiles partners Delta Air Lines and Air France are offering cut-price flights from Los Angeles (LAX) to Papeete for just $249 each way.
If you’re interested in bargain prices for this far-flung, French-speaking Pacific paradise, tickets are available until the end of February. Sales are valid on most flights, although not all, so those who are flexible with dates are likely to find the best deals.
If you’ve managed to snag a cut-price flight across the pond, you can get even more flights within Europe at amazing prices thanks to easyJet’s January sale. The low-cost carrier is currently offering 20 percent off on selected routes, including to destinations across the Mediterranean in countries like Italy, Spain, France, and Greece. Tickets are on sale until 11 p.m. GMT on January 10 and are valid on selected flights departing between January 18 and September 30.

You can fly to Spain with Iberia from New York for just €174 ($183), from Chicago for €182 ($191), from Boston for €189 ($198), or from Washington D.C. for €192 ($201). Once in Spain, you can get connecting flights to domestic destinations such as Ibiza and Santiago de Compostela for just $21 each way. Tickets are on sale until January 19 for travel up until June 15.
Low-cost carrier JetBlue is kicking off 2023 by offering one-way flights for as little as $44 as part of its ‘Big Winter Sale’. Tickets must be purchased before 11 p.m. ET on January 11 for flights departing between January 17 and March 29. However, the sale is only valid for the lowest possible fares, which means you’ll have to make do with Economy Class if you want to snap up these low prices.
Some of the best deals are from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles, or from Boston to Buffalo, for just $44 one way. And for just $49 each way, customers can get tickets from New York to Nashville or Savannah, from Boston to Philadelphia or Detroit, or from Fort Lauderdale to Atlanta.
Other deals include domestic flights between New York and Charleston, Boston and Savannah, and Orlando and Buffalo. If you’re chasing the sun, you might be interested in San Juan, with flights from Fort Lauderdale starting at just $79 one way.
Another major U.K. carrier, Virgin Atlantic, is also offering bargain prices on transatlantic flights. The airline is currently offering a £200 ($237) discount on Upper-Class fares on selected flights, along with a £50 ($59) discount on all other cabins: Economy Light, Classic, Delight, and Premium.
Routes on which the discount applies include flights to London Heathrow from Boston (BOS), Miami (MIA), New York (JFK), or Orlando (MCO). Tickets are currently on sale up until January 31.
Canadian carrier WestJet is also running a winter sales campaign, with discounted flights available across Canada, as well as further afield to Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Europe. Customers can fly from Vancouver to Toronto for just $113 one way, while transatlantic flights from Calgary to London start at just $286 each way.
The sale ends January 10, but it’s valid on flights for most of 2023—between January 13 and November 30.
